Gautam Khakhar, M.D. is a New York board certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician. He was trained at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he completed a 7-year BA/MD program. He went on to complete an internship in Internal Medicine at NYU Medical Center. During his residency at Columbia Presbyterian – Weill Cornell Medical Center, he was given the honor of being the chief resident of his department.
Dr. Khakhar has been involved in numerous research projects during his career. As a diplomate of the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, he has presented his research in national conventions and has made many platform presentations. He has conducted studies on injuries to intervertebral discs and has expertise on spinal and musculoskeletal pathology.
Dr. Khakhar’s practices are committed to exceptional patient care. His offices have a friendly and knowledgeable staff, including medical doctors, physical therapists and medical technicians. Amongst services offered are various specialized injection techniques. His offices provide highly specific spinal injections using the latest state-of-the-art fluoroscopy equipment.
With a multidisciplinary approach and years of experience, patients are given a sense of comfort and are treated with exemplary care.
Dr. Villafuerte graduated from University of the East College of Medicine. He completed his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Nassau County Medical Center. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Villafuerte believes that through his medical specialty, he is able to offer a comprehensive approach to pain relief. He is able to utilize physical therapy modalities and exercises in his treatment plan and collaborate with pain management in helping relieve pain and restore mobility and function.
Dr. Ross specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of painful musculoskeletal conditions from spinal injuries and joint injuries. He is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete his residency at Rusk Rehabilitation at New York University Medical Center.
Dr. Ross focuses on the non-surgical management of pain. He is experienced in formulating a unique treatment plan for each patient using a combination of physical therapy strategies, injection-based therapy, and pharmacologic management. He believes that patient education is important in understanding one’s condition and aiding in recovery.
In his free time, Dr. Ross enjoys traveling, golfing, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Derek C. Johnston is an Interventional Pain Management physician with a training background in Physiatry. He is a graduate of the Howard University College of Medicine and completed his residency training in physiatry at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He went on to complete an interventional pain management fellowship at Advanced Spine and Sports Medicine Specialists, Edison, NJ.
A conservative approach is his belief in addressing pain and dysfunction, Dr. Johnston is committed to helping patients restore their activity through minimally invasive procedures for spinal nerve pain as well as ultrasound-guided injections if necessary.
Sara Sanders is a certified physician assistant at Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation of NY. She is passionate about helping her patients heal through compassionate and quality care.
Ms. Sanders has worked in the field of Physiatry for the past four years, honing her diagnostic skills and developing valuable insight into the treatment of varying orthopedic conditions. “I believe that it is so important to treat each patient individually and develop a plan tailored to their specific injuries and lifestyle. Through meaningful provider-patient relationships, we can learn how to most effectively help our patients and manage their pain and optimize their quality of life,” Sanders states.
Upon earning her Bachelor Degree from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, Ms. Sanders was introduced to the role of the physician assistant. She was attracted to the versatility of the role as well as the ability to spend time with patients, and she decided to further her career.
She attended South University where she graduated with a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Ms. Sanders participated as a Student Ambassador and completed clinical rotations in various fields including orthopedics, general surgery, pediatrics, and internal medicine.
Outside of work, Ms. Sanders enjoys reading, traveling, exploring NYC museums, and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs.
Felix Almentero, M.D. is a Board Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist who has been practicing medicine for 33 years. He graduated from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in 1986 in Puerto Rico and completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Boston Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Almentero has extensive experience in performing and analyzing electrodiagnostic studies as well as performing musculoskeletal evaluations and treatment including therapeutic joint injections under ultrasound guidance. His previous experience includes his role as a staff physician at the Clara Maass Medical Center in New Jersey where he provided rehab services, performed electrodiagnostic studies, and conducted pain management consultations. In several nursing home settings, Dr. Almentero has served as the lead physiatrist, providing thorough diagnosis and treatment services to their patients.
Dr. Almentero has been recognized as an Americas Top Physicians for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2018.
Dr. Toussaint specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of painful musculoskeletal pathologies from spinal, joint and brain injuries. He graduated from University d’Etat d’Haiti, School of Medicine and has completed his residency at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Toussaint accentuates more on the non-surgical management of pain. He has developed a unique treatment program for each patient based on physical therapy strategies, injection-based therapy, and pharmacologic management. Patient education is the foundation of his medical plan.
At his leisure time, Dr. Toussaint enjoys reading, writing, playing music, sports and spending time with his family and friends.
Josh Woody is a certified Physician Assistant and registered by the New York state department of health to practice in New York. He is a graduate of the Master of Physician Assistant Practice program at Campbell University, North Carolina, certified by the NCCPA and a member of the AAPA.
“I believe in a collaborative approach working with the patient together as a team. By working together, along with Physicians and Physical Therapists, collaborating is the best path back to health and wellness. My passion is working with patients on this journey.” He enjoys being able to spend time with patients and explaining all the treatment options available to them.
In his spare time, he enjoys music and exploring the huge variety of restaurants in New York.
Dr. Teresa Bianchi is one of our Interventional Pain Management physicians. She graduated from TouroCOM New York medical school and completed her residency in PM&R at NYU Rusk Rehabilitation. Afterwards, she pursued her sub-specialty training at Hudson Spine & Pain Medicine in New York where she developed her skills in a wide variety of procedures. Prior to pursuing her career in medicine, she had a successful career in tv & film production where she had the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life. She has a passion for physical fitness, having garnered several awards and rankings on the stage in bodybuilding. Both in her work and personal life, she continues to integrate her passions for fitness, musculoskeletal optimization, and a healthful lifestyle. With roots in South America, Dr. Bianchi has maintained her sense of responsibility to ensure that the under served community receives the highest standard of care with the help of her language skills and compassion.
